In Sept/October 2026, I visited several schools in Ukraine for the Kids Giving Hope to Kids art project.

During the two weeks I was there; in Kyiv there was a ballistic missile attack; in Dnipro, a drone hit a building four blocks from my hotel; and after going to a bomb shelter on another occasion, I heard rapid gun fire as the Ukrainian soldiers were trying to shoot down another drone that was overhead.

Several times we had to run down to the bomb shelters and see the students there.  There were countless air raid sirens going off day and night.

And yet in spite of all of this, the kids still want to go to school.  The teachers still want to teach.  And Ukrainians are living their lives as best they can given the current circumstances.  The courage and strength of these people is beyond inspiring.  In several of the kids messages, they are actually reaching out to other kids, hoping they are doing well.

When I left each school, there were two requests that all of the schools made.

"When you go home, please can you ask the American people to not forget about us?"

The other request was to scan all of the kids drawings up onto the website.  I put as many as I could on the website, and will alternate drawings so that all the Ukrainian kids drawings will eventually be on the website. Unfortunately it's an older program with not enough space.

Hopefully these drawings will bring more of an awareness to people who see this and they will understand how critical it is that we fully support - and never forget - Ukraine.

Here are the kids drawings.  May they touch peoples hearts!

Long live Ukraine!
